[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] SUMMARY: Curses Request

stergios@Jessica.stanford.edu (stergios marinopoulos) (03/21/89)

Thanks to everyone who sent me info on the various p.c. curses
available (one humorous person even offered a list of nasty words!)
It seems there are quite a few (>5?) pd versions of curses, and two or
three for sale versions.

I received many requests for summary information, so here are most of
the responses I received in condensed form.

Stergios, there are two versions of curses for MSDOS available from
Simtel20. They are in directory pd1:<msdos.screen>.

Stergios, the 00-INDEX.TXT files are a listing of *some* of the files
in each directory. We haven't finished cataloging the whole
collection.

Here is what you are looking for:

Here is the README.NOW file:

This is a hacked up version of Pavel Curtis' PDCURSES for terminfo
that is available for anonymous ftp at seismo in the mod.sources
archives. It should complile and work fine for MSC 4.0 - however,
it still has bugs that will manifest when some of the more esoteric
functions are used.

To unpack, put the pieces of the uuencoded mailing together,
run it through uudecode, download to your PC, and use pkxarc3.5
to unpack (pkxarc3.5 was just posted to comp.sys.ibm.pc about
2 weeks ago). Each archive could contain other archives. These
archives must be moved to directories of the same name and then
un-arced again in order for the makefile to function properly.

Lastly, don't worry about saving this note. Its enclosed within
the archive. This is for those absent minded types who won't get
around to un-arcing this for another few months. Hope y'all have
fun playing with this.

---

I believe the first ARC is the better of the two but you might want to
keep the second in mind in case there are any problems.

I use a commercial version of Curses for the PC from Aspen Scientific.
If you're interested, I'll post the address (it's at home).

"pccurses" was posted to comp.sources.misc in volume 5 (early Nov
`88). It is entries v05i022 thru v05i027. Compressed, the total byte
count is about 100K, which means about double that for mail compatible
format. You will need a Microsoft C 4.0 compiler or a Turbo-C 1.0
compiler to use this according to the DOC's.

Check your nearest comp.sources.misc site. If you don't know
about archive sites, try reading the newsgroup comp.archives. Or perhaps
local mail to "root" will get you the information.

I have a public domain curses package that was posted to the net a
little while back. It is quite large ( > 200k ) so please let me know if you
still need it.

I have a couple versions of Curses for the PC on my bulletin board. One
version is shareware, without sources, and the other package is complete
with sources suitable for Microsoft C 4.0 or 5.1. I have used the latter,
it seems complete and works well.

If you want to dial in and get it yourself (the quickest way), call the
BBS at (919) 782-3095. You will have full downloading privileges, and the
files are listed in download directory #11.

If you can't do that, if you send me a formatted disk and SASE, then I will
copy it and mail it to you. The address is in the .signature.

I use Aspen Scientific curses, a commercial package. I works great.
Available at the Programmer's Shop. This version is System V compatible,
which means it supports pads as well as windows.
