Yes, I tried it once.  I don't remember the figures, but it gave
clearly more compression than any other archiver.  I didn't just rely
on reported compression ratio - I compared file sizes.

That's not what I saw.  Lharc ran noticeably slower than Zip.  I figure
that's part of how you pay for what you get.

and if only there were a statement that lharc is, or is not, free to be
used without payment.  The help screen only says you can distribute and
copy it without payment.  I suspect that a shareware license agreement
may also have been left out of the package.
