I posted this little quiz to the net almost a month ago and received
a disappointing response. ie. almost none.
(1) What kind of car did Mrs. Peel drive?
(a) Mrs. Peel drove a Lotus Elan.
This was a Fiberglas bodied, four cylinder (dohc),
open two-seater produced from around 1966
to about 1972.
(2) Why did "Mrs. Peel" leave the service?
(a) Mrs. Peel was always said to be the widow of that
well known adventurer and explorer, Peter Peel,
whose plane was lost on his last expedition
the the Amazon. To extricate Diana Rigg from the
the writers had Peter show up in Mrs. Peel's last
episode. All we saw of her husband was the back
of his head from a distance as he waited in Mrs.
Peel's Lotus for her to say good-by to Steed.
(3) What was Mrs. Peel's maiden name?
(a) Mrs. Peel's maiden name was Knight.
(4) What did her father do for a living?
(a) I don't remember exactly but I think that he was
referred to as an industrialist. We found this
out in an episode in which Emma was left an estate
in a disgruntled ex-employee's will. The ex-employee
was an automation expert who wanted to do away with
all the human employees. After his death his house
tried to do away with Emma.
(5) What was Steed's rank and branch of service?
(a) Steed was a Major and although I don't remember
exactly as I was hoping someone would help
I imagine that it was a guards regiment because
Steed was obviously upper crust.
Here are two more questions:
(1) In the scene referred to in the answer to #2 above,
what did Mrs. Peel say to Tara King on the stairs about
Steed's tea preferences?
(2) What was Mrs. Peel's academic speciality?
Joe Wood
