[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] UUDECODE/ENCODE 3.07

rmarks@KSP.Unisys.COM (Richard Marks) (06/12/89)

Hi to all.

I posted my newest version of UUENCODE/DECODE to comp.binaries.
I will post it to SIMTEL and Clarkson soon.

This new version is compatible with the prior 2.14 version.
Also I sent it out to three people on the net for beta testing,
so it is pretty solid. I felt that communications software of
this type should be VERY stable when released. The beta test
request worked for this program. The net could become saturated
with requests for beta tests. I recommend that we only ask for
beta testing for relatively critical programs.

This UUDECODE runs on the PC. First you download postings to the PC.
Then this program automatically takes multi-section postings
(as posted), hooks them all together, validates the checksums,
and spits out whatever was encoded (usually an archive file).

Version 3.07 runs half again as fast as 2.14 and is written in TP5.
3.07 uses the "sum -r" checksums and sizes that are put into the
comp.binaries postings. 3.07 UUENCODE outputs sum -r checksum and
size info. 3.07 UUDECODE also checks for two possible previously
used checksum methods.

Rahul said that he is coming up with a new checksum mechanism,
when that comes out, I will be updating my UUENCODE/DECODE for
compatibility. Also I have not looked at Brad Templeton's stuff
yet.

Regards to all,
Richard Marks
