I remember seeing what I think was a series on TV when I was a child (about 20 years ago). About all I can recall is that our hero (who may have been the last human on Earth or something like that) had a strange *artificial hand* which looked like it was made of glass. The guy had only a couple of the fingers on the hand, and I think the plot revolved around his attempts to acquire the rest of the fingers so that the hand could save the world or kill off all his alien enemies or something like that. I think maybe the hand would also glow to home-in on the fingers... Can ANYONE tell me ANYTHING about this show and thus fill a trivial gap in my memories? Mark R. I believe this was an episode of the Twilight Zone or some other similar show, rather than a series by itself. Darn it, I don't remember the name of the actor but he now plays in the Greatest American Hero.

I believe the person with the glass hand was a human sent back from the future to stop an alien takeover. The hand was a computer and the fingers were parts of mainstore or something, and he had to get all the fingers back before he would know what to do about the aliens. I'm not sure, but I think that this was an episode on "Outer Limits."

#R:tekmdp:-166100:fortune:4500001:000:456 fortune!glossman Jan 11 15:05:00 1983 You must be referring to the Outer Limits episode: "The Demon with the Glass Hand". Robert Culp stars as a robot escaping by time travel from alien invaders in the future with all of humanity recorded within him. Most of the story involves our hero searching for additional glass fingers which are really memory lobes of the computer in his hand. Culp thinks he's human and only discovers that he's not at the end. Bob Glossman (...fortune!glossman)

The Outer Limits episode in question is "Demon With a Glass Hand" by Harlan Ellison, starring Robert Culp. It was filmed in an office building in downtown LA called the Bradbury Building -- an architectural monument. Mike (trw-unix!trwspp!urban) ~e

#R:tekmdp:-166100:ihlpb:21900001: 0:557 ihlpb!burris Jan 14 12: 8:00 1983 I belive the story was as follows: The earth was going to be invaded by a group of aliens. A Scientist invented a means to hide the people of the earth by magnetically storing them on a piece of wire. The robot/computer(Culp) was built to safegaurd the wire which was installed inside him. He had no knowledge of why he should be locating the fingers but as he found them one by one, the hand grew smarter. Once all of the fingers were in place he learned the secret of his existence and the humans were saved. Dave Burris ihlpb!burris BTL - Naperville

I, too, remember it as being a Twilight Zone story...

It was an episode of "The Outer Limits", starring Robert Culp (yes, of "The Greatest American Hero" and "I Spy" (with Bill Cosby)). I forget the exact titles of the episode, but I know it was written by Harlan Ellison. --Bernie Roehl ...decvax!watmath!watarts!bernie
