I am looking for a screen blanking program. One that blanks the screen if there is no activity for a specified period of time. Email please. Sorry if this is an old question, but I am new to this group and to the IBM world in general. Many thanks in advance. Nick

One that blanks the screen There are various screen blanker programs available that work quite well. I have some that work with monochrome, CGA, EGA, and VGA adapters. Each of these adapter cards requires a different 'trick' to blank the screen. Michael

Speaking of screen blankers, there is (at least) one (brnout) that claims to turn off the video rather than simply changing the foreground color (and background as well if necessary) to black. I would like to use it but it warns against the possibility of damage especially with a Hercules card. I have an IBM 8514 card and monitor; I contacted IBM to see if this hardware procedure is safe, and I got back the advice to simply turn down the contrast if I want to blank the screen... Does anybody know if it would be safe to use brnout with this system? Carl Riehm.

I have an IBM 8513 VGA monitor and adapter. I have been using burnout for some time now and have found that it does not always work with all programs, so I turned to VGAZAP. It works very well with just about any program including graphics. For example, I was viewing a few GIF's with the blanker loaded and after 300 seconds (what I had set VGAZAP to blank at) the screen blanked. I was amazed that the blanker would handle graphics as well as text. So if you want a good screen blanker look for VGAZAP or get back to me at my address.
