A FAST PC-PC coms transfer program called ZIP was recently posted to the newsgroup comp.binaries.ibm.pc. The header of the posting contained the following description: >From an enclosed blurb: > > ZIP is a program for superfast transfer of files between two compu- > ters (eg, desktop and laptop) using a direct serial cable > connection. Up to 6 times faster than a communications program, > even 2-3 times faster than other free utilities like PCmag's ZCOPY > that "work at 115200 bps". Requires IBM PC compatibles, and a "null > modem" cable. Version 1.3 adds remote server mode, file > directories, selective copy options. Free program. Dated April 16, > 1989. > >I've been using zip a little at home between a PC and an AT and it >works fine. MY QUESTION IS: Is there a similar set of programs around for transfer between a PC and a UNIX based system? Is the C source for ZIP or any similar program available? Thanks in advance. Please reply via e-mail. I will post a summary if there is any interest. -- Stephen Gaito -------------------------------------------- JANET: stg@uk.ac.warwick.maths BITNET/EARN: stg%uk.ac.warwick.maths@UKACRL Mail: Mathematics Institute University of Warwick Coventry UK CV4 7AL --------------------------------------------

Most UNIX systems don't support 115000 baud.
Use KERMIT or ZMODEM at 9600 or 19200 baud.

Does anyone out there have a program for downloading and converting executable file (.EXE) from this NETnews to IBM PC. My friend told me that there is a program called 'hex_to_bin' in C language that could convert it. Is this right? I appreciate if you send me a copy of this program (if you have it). Thank you very much. My e-mail: peora!ctm
