A question... I have been obtaining MSDOS softwarev from SIMTEL20 through NDSUVM1 LISTSERV....Last week all of a sudden I do not get a response from them. I have sent about 4 requests now with no response.. Does anyone know if NDSUVM1 is down or gone???? ---------- Brian A. Martin "How did that bug get there!"

The LISTSERV at NDSUVM1 is still alive and working. Non-BITNET users should send requests to the Arpanet side of that LISTSERV, not the BITNET side. This avoids delays going through the BITNET gateway. The Arpanet address is LISTSERV@VM1.NODAK.EDU and if you are using the bang path method: backbone!vm1.nodak.edu!listserv (where backbone refers to a Usenet backbone site that is also on the Arpanet. See my signature below for examples). Martin > "How did that bug get there!" I received files from them yesterday (6/27/89) with no problem. Have you had any changes in your software recently? When I tried to access them using the address format listserv@ndsuvm1, I never received a reply. I think our mailer was not providing a usable return address. When I was able to use the ARPA format vm1.nodak.edu!listserv , I started to receive replys. apparently, our mailer did a better job of handling the other address formats. Duane L.
