[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] SHAR

taine@bibs.FIDONET.ORG (Taine Gilliam) (07/10/89)

along the same lines as the discusion on c.b.i.p name problems i am having the same problem with other sources.

i need to be able to extract SHARs on the PC under MS-DOS. i have a version of SHAR that works for the most part but provides no filename translation for the unix names with multiple dots for example 'user.docs.part.2' is not a valid filename for dos but unix thinks it is fine.

anyone got a better version of SHAR???

this is not a problem for the SHARs themselves as i can have the unpacker convert the dots in the filename to slash when extracting to DOS. i get lots of subdirs sometimes but that is better than trashing the name.
