[net.followup] posting of Re: Air Raid On Libya in net.general

steve@bambi.UUCP (Steve Miller) (05/07/86)

I've been getting alot of mail lately, generated by my tongue-in-cheek
posting in net.general to the effect that "We're all delighted about
[David Smyth not living in the US]." Most approved, but many objected.
Most objections were not to the content, but to the fact that it was
in net.general. Several of you have posted your own Re: Air Raid On Libya
messages in net.general, and I'm sure you are getting your own hate mail.
Whether we are on the same side of this issue or not, I want to tell each
of you that at least one person approves of your action. The original
posting clearly was not of the class Gene Spafford describes in his
instructions for net.general use, and belonged in net.politics. To that
extent, I see an interesting analogy: Smyth's posting in net.general
was a violation of international accord; with no alternative, right
thinking persons had to do the same thing. After all, no one reads
net.followup.
