[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Non-Standard HD

etxsral@tnetxa.ericsson.se (Lars Nilsson, ERICSSON TELECOM, SWEDEN) (08/14/89)

I want to use a non-standard HD on Ericsson PC or Ericsson AT/WS286.

With non-standard I mean a harddisk that is not supported directly by the
BIOS.
I want to use the following hard-disks :

AMPEX 27 ( 320 cylinders , 8 heads )
HITACHI DK 511-8 ( 823 cylinders ,10 heads )

I have tried with DiskManager but all versions I used where made for a specific
brand ( ex. Seagate ,Miniscribe etc ) and it's not possible to change parameters
for cylinders or heads.

Do you know if there is a generic version of DiskManager with the possibility
to change cylinders and heads parameters ?

Do you know some other programs ?

How about my "bigdisk" program, which allows you to describe a
non-standard disk. Note that you will have to use DOS 3.3 to get up to 4
partitions of 32 MB. It does NOT allow large partitions, just large and
non-BIOD disks.
