[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Postscript -> Dot Matrix program needed.

snsrjth@nmtsun.nmt.edu (- Jeff -) (09/05/89)

I am looking for a public domain program that can take a file in postscript
form and make it compatable to be printed out on a dot matrix printer. Does
anyone know if such a thing exist in Public Domain? If so, could someone
let me know as to how or where one can be obtained (ftp site prefered)? Please
email responses if possible. Thanks in advance. :-)

Because so many have asked for any information I received in response
to the first article, I decided I would post the results I have so
far.

A few days ago, I posted an article asking the following question:

>I am looking for a public domain program that can take a file in postscript
>form and make it compatable to be printed out on a dot matrix printer. Does
>anyone know if such a thing exist in Public Domain? If so, could someone
>let me know as to how or where one can be obtained (ftp site prefered)?

So far I have gotten two recommendations. One for ghostscript and one
for an interpreter program written by Chris Gospin (title unknown).

>There are at least two that I know of. The first is chris gospin's(?)
>interpreter that should be available on any handy net source archiver
>(including uunet). The second is Ghostscript from the Free Software
>Foundation. anon ftp to aeneas.ai.mit.edu, cd /u2/emacs.

and

>There is one called ghostscript in the prep.ai.mit.edu.

Now for some questions:

(1) Has anyone used ghostscript for the purpose described above? If so, how?
Will it work for a Epson compatable printer?

(2) Does have a name as a ftp site for the interpreter written by Chris Gospin
    described above?

(3) Any other public domain or shareware programs available other than the
two described above? If so, where can I get it via ftp?

Please email responses or post. Thanks in advance. :-)
