[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Which ZIPper to use ??

chrisb@hubcap.clemson.edu (Chris) (10/10/89)

I can't get my PKZIP v0.92 to unzip some .ZIP files.
Is there a difference between files ZIPped with a later
version which would cause problems ??
Error: Can't handle ....
Don't know how to handle ....
Now that Clarkson has gone 100% ZIP, it would be nice to know.
Thank You.

Simple...when Katz released the official version of ZIP, he added a new
process of data compression called IMPLODING...version 0.92 doesn't
handle that...

Just grab yourself a copy of version 1.01 or 1.02 and you're all set...

I ran into the same problem recently and yes, you do need to get the latest
version of PKZIP. What's happening is the latest version introduced a new
algorithm (imploding/exploding) which is an improvement over previous types,
but is also incompatible as well. Try PKZ101.EXE - I got a copy from simtel20
the other day and it cured all problems.
