[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] RESTART config.sys/autoexec.bat manager

guesgen@icsia1.berkeley.edu (Hans-Werner Guesgen) (10/20/89)

I recently got a copy of RESTART, which is a config.sys/autoexec.bat
manager. I like the concept of this program, however, it does not run
on my machine properly. The reason probably is that I am using the PCKWIK
disk accelerator, which causes RESTART to boot my machine before the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file is written.

The program is written by Tom Almy. Does anybody have the author's
address? I tried the email address which is mentioned in the RESTART
documentation (toma@tekgvs.tek.com), but it does not work.

I'm posting this because it is of general use.
Unless there is some safe way for a program to do a "reboot" with such
disk caching software, you need to always run RESTART with the -n (no reboot)
option, and then manually do a ctrl-alt-del.

You might want to pick up a copy of my CONFIG version 2.0. It has
a delay feature that can compensate for this problem. It can also
run DOS commands (like the one that turns off your caching
software). It's available on many BBS's including mine - BOBsBBS
(916/929-7511).
