[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Microsoft Word 4.0 vs Sun PC/NFS printer services

fredex@cg-atla.UUCP (Fred Smith) (10/27/89)

Hope this is in the right group!

I am trying to run Microsoft Word 4.0 on a PC whose postscript printer is out
on the net somewhere. Sun PC/NFS is used to managethe connection to the remote
printer.

Can anyone out there tell me what I need to do to be able to print on a remote
Postscript printer with such a setup? The Sun documentation tells you that you need
to make certain changes (when running Word 3.0) but these do not seem to do the
trick at 4.0.

The problema appears to be due to the way Word handles postscript, i.e., there is
a separate header file which contains a bunch of defines, etc., which is downloaded
to the printer (once, I think) and then the actual documents assume that this
pre-defined support exists in the printer. Somehow things get screwed up on a shared
networked printer.

If anybody out there knows how to solve this problem I would love to hear from you!
