I have always wondered why, with so many standards available (e.g. .GIF for bit-mapped graphics, .ARC for archiving, UUENCODE for safe binary transfers), a standard for documentation files has never developed. Nearly all of the doc files I have ever received (that were formatted) I have had to manually edit to print correctly on my printers. At times, I have even had to remake a Table of Contents or Index for docs that were really important to me. Has anyone given any thought to this? Good documentation really needs to be formatted for easier reading, and an adequate TOC/index is by definition a part of good documentation. Any comments? -Tim Larson trl3@psuvm.bitnet odx@psuvm.bitnet
