[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] public domain file compaction

saal@cbnewsl.ATT.COM (samuel.saal) (12/07/89)

I am looking for a program that will go through a hard disk (or a
floppy) and grab the little bits of files and put them into long
contiguous sections on the disk. I am told that this will speed
up access time and decrease "wear and tear" on the disk. The
catch is that I'd prefer freeware, but I'm willing to pay for
shareware.

There was such a program posted on comp.binaries.ibm.pc at the
beginning of the year, but it contained a warning not to use it
on DOS 4.0 or newer. I took the warning seriously.

I don't have ftp available, but would appreciate any help. I can
uudecode and zoo/pkxarc anything people can tell me about.

ADVthanksANCE
