The story of the SysReq key on the IBM AT as I heard it was that when the AT first came out ('84, I think), there was some talk that it would be used as a multi-tasking machine (in protected mode). The SysReq key was to be used to indicate system requests, and the key had its own interrupt so it could always interrupt whatever else was going on. All the cloners copied everything, even the SysReq relic key. It's basically a useless key at this point. John F. O'Brien
