[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] mathematical symbolic manipulator

tim@nwnexus.WA.COM (Tim Anderson) (12/09/89)

Hello all!

Does there exist a reasonably inexpensive symbolic manipulator for ugly
math equations out there? Currently I cannot afford the $800 or so that
they want for 386 Mathematica... I have a DOS based 386 with a VGA card.
I need something that can solve some of the incredibly ugly equations that
I keep having to deal with, but won't clobber my dwindling bank account.
Thanks!

No cute signature for me, sorry.

grape@ecs.clarkson.edu has a copy of a program called mathtext that looks
like it's just what you need.

I think I have also seen a program called Derive, from a company called
SoftWarehouse. Check the Computers in Physics magazines, or recent issues
of Byte and PC Mag. I know I saw a review, and they claim to do most of
what mathmatica does, and it is worth looking into.
