I vaguelly remember a program floating around somewhere that allowed downloading from a mainframe to a PC in the background. I need to transfer some extremely large files from a VMS system to a PC and would prefer to be able to use the PC while I'm at it. Does this description tickle any memories? mAd_QuArK! kimf@tybalt.caltech.edu

DGTERM in PD2:<MSDOS2.MODEM> on Simtel20 supports background download/upload with XMODEM or YMODEM-BATCH... Crashes the system every once in a while though, if I remember correctly. Evidently the comm program that comes with PC-TOOLS (Centralpoint) supports background XMODEM too. Multitasking in Dos environment is not always easy. It's a bit flaky, but does reasonable background download in Xmodem and Ymodem.
