[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Reviews of AWK for MS-DOS

fontana@linc.cis.upenn.edu (Josep M. Fontana) (05/28/90)

	A friend of mine asked me to post this here. Now that Keith
Petersen is no longer maintaining the MS-DOS software archives on
SIMTEL, such announcements will become a thing of the past, no? :-(
The latest copy of simibm.idx indicates the files were indeed added to
the archives.

                     ----- snip, snip, snip -----
   I have uploaded the latest version of my AWK reviews to SIMTEL20. Since
SIMTEL20 currently lacks a copy of Rob Duff's AWK implementation, I am
including his latest version (v2.14) as well.

<msdos.awk>
AWK_REV3.ZIP    Reviews of AWK for MS-DOS, v3.
AWK214.ZIP      Rob Duff's AWK interpreter, v2.14.

The reviews consist of two parts. The first deals with the AWK programming
language in general and is targeted at individuals with little programming
experience. The second benchmarks AWK implementations from Rob Duff, the
GNU Project, Mortice Kern Systems (MKS), and Polytron/SAGE Software.

   Additionally, I've taken this opportunity to upload a couple of my own
public domain utilities to SIMTEL20. All files include source code (in
assembly language or C), documentation, and executables.

<msdos.batutl>
ASK10.ZIP Ask questions in batch files, with time-out.
DAT12.ZIP Display date and time for program logging.
RING12.ZIP      Rings console bell.

<msdos.dirutl>
WHICH20.ZIP Scan PATH for executable programs.

<msdos.txtutl>
CC20.ZIP Process files with carriage control chars.
QUOTE22.ZIP Random quote generator with 500+ quotes.

   Enjoy!

George
