I originally posted to comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d asking about a program for the pc which allows one to log onto a unix system more than once OVER THE SAME PHONE LINE! Well, here are the answers. Thanks very much to everyone who responded. Quoth arasmith@mathcs.emory.edu (David Arasmith): >The program you'll want to get a hold of (though it might still not exist >for the PC) is called "uw" (for unix windows or something like that). It >was originally written for the MAC and has been ported to some other >machines (amiga(?), AT&T 3b1). I have heard rumblings about it's existence >but I've gotten nothing that works. I have a fair amount of information >about the unix end of things (protocols, etc.) if you would like info to >write your own. Hope this hleps somehow! {I wrote him back concerning the AT&T software and he responsed that Andy Fyfe was the developer and so that anyone wishing to develop an implementation for the pc should write him for the code. His address might be: andy@berkeley.edu. arasmith@mathcs.emory.edu says that if it seems impossible to find this Fyfe guy he (arasmith) might have the source around somewhere.} whelan@donald.uhcc.Hawaii.Edu Notes that >...might be interested to know that DEC's Ultrix apparently comes with >a utility called 'screens' that lets you run numerous virtual (full-screen >only) terminals out to one terminal... microsoft!t-rayc@uunet.uu.net sez >Perhaps you're thinking of the "uw" program. ("UNIX Windows") >It multiplexes up to seven UNIX sessions over a single modem. >There's also the "screens" program that runs completely on the UNIX end. I.e., you can use your regular terminal program on the PC. >(uw requires that you be running a "uw client" program on your PC.) {So it seems that 'uw' does it & that's not currently available for the pc. So how 'bout it programmer's?
