[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Brik checksum failures and recent articles

hartung@amos.ucsd.edu (Jeff Hartung) (07/19/90)

I recently saved a few articles and decided to verify them with brik before
proceding to 'combine' them. The files were the 13 KYSS articles. The first
article checked out OK with brik, but the remaining 12 were reported as bad.
I decided to delete them from disk and figured something had corrupted them.
Later, I also saved 34instal and 3dmenu20 articles. Same story. I decided to
run them through the 'combine' script anyhow. Guess what? They were OK,
I checked them out with 'zoo -xN <zoofile>' and there were no errors. I
thought that perhaps the original brik that generated the Ckecksum: line might
have been done on a DOS machine, then uploaded as an ascii file to a UNIX
machine, thus converting the CR/LF chars to LF chars and altering the
checksum. No such luck. 'flip -m <articles>' did not cause brik to verify
the articles correctly.

Has this happened to anyone else? The files came through just fine, but the
easy checksum verification with brik is a nice luxery and I would miss it.
Bill?
