Is there a program for PCs to print 4 pages of text on one single page
side using a laserjet?

I am aware of 4print which prints 4 pages using the front and back of
a page (it's no what I want). I have used such an option on a unix
host, the print although tiny is very readable, it was probably
achieved in a graphic mode, I presume.

Thank you.

I downloaded a PD package called Microtext from a local BBS, and it does
exactly what you are looking for. It uses a TINY.SFP download font on a
laserjet, and works great on a dot-matrix printer too (uses superscript
font). Has a number of nice features, and you can customise it with your
own printer codes (I did it for the HP for A4 paper).

Have a look, you should be able to find it somewhere.

I downloaded this same package tonight from Compu$erve, rearchived it
from .ARC to .ZIP, and just finished uploading it to SIMTEL20. Hope-
fully it will appear in the public area there in a few days -- most
likely as PD1:<MSDOS.PRINTER>MTXT31.ZIP.

Shareware program called docsmash. Dunno if simtel has it. It works on
dot matrix printers for certain, you might have to customize it for laser.

At simtel-20, under printer utilities, you'll find a little thingy called
DOCSMASH...I don't have the exact name of the .arc file handy.

It works just fine (a little hard to read, but then....;^) on my Epson
LQ-510. On my Epson MX-80 (with Graftrax), it was just about unusable: the
edges of the "pages" intersected/overlapped; the print was too coarse to read
reliably; etc. The jump from 8 to 24 pins made a great difference.

If your Laserjet has an "Epson" mode, try it out. It's shareware; play with
it, try to make it work, if it doesn't, well, then, you're out no money.

That's a nice thing about shareware.

What I'm looking for is a 4p./side, 2-SIDED printer. This, I've not yet seen,
and these things aren't "filters" enough to allow connecting in this fashion.

Still, if we can get a paginator that will split a file in groups of four
pages rather than singles, we may have something as a front end to Docsmash.

						Best o' luck,
