[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Archive sites - what's wrong?

jon@motcsd.csd.mot.com (jonathan.ma) (08/04/90)

I used to get GIFs from csula-ps.calstatela.edu (130.182.171.1). It seems to
have changed the permissions on /pub/gif/gif, therefore, I can't get anything
from there now.

I believe the high demand for good-quality GIFs somehow makes the archive
sites very unhappy. They either turn off the permission or shutdown the
system (i.e. grape.ecs.clarkson.edu 128.153.13.196). I must say that if we
can't get GIFs from the archive sites, what's so good about having networks!
Why can't they figure out a way to solve the problems of overflowing the
machine/modem capacity?

I believe if the problem persists, more archive sites will disappear very soon.
Are you listening, CompuServe? I'm ready to sign-up and pay the tolls as soon
as the last archive site close the door (Note: I'd offer $100 to any archive
site for your unused Telebit Trailblazer, any taker? ;-).
