[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Help fight stupidity

davidsen@sixhub.UUCP (Wm E. Davidsen Jr) (08/17/90)

Please help me stop mis-posting to this group. Whenever I see a
posting which is off topic in this group I mail the poster this little
file:
________________________________________________________________

This discussion does not relate to binaries in comp.binaries.ibm.pc.
Please move the discussion to comp.os.msdos.{misc,hardware}, where it
is appropriate and will get a better readership.

Let's try to keep c.b.i.p.d on topic.
________________________________________________________________

If all the people who are as fed up with this, and who run rn, will
"clip and save" this in a file (I use off.topic), when you see one of
these you can type "roff.topic<RET>s" and mail it to the poster.
That's "r" for reply, "off.topic<RET>" for the file to include, and "s"
to send it to the poster.

Maybe if people get 50-100 messages like this they will *wake up*!!!

Sorry if this sounds like I'm upset, it's been a long day, I'm
skipping a poker game to post articles, and I'm wasting time reading
what these ____ are misposting. There seems to be an epidemic of
cranialanalism, and maybe this will help stop it.

Someone asked me to clarify what is on topics for this group. That is
discussion of binaries posted here, binaries which might be here in the
future, such as things on ftp, and discussion of the group itself, like
renaming, archivers, etc.

Questions about which mouse to use, is DOS as good as OS/2, etc, are
not reasonable here. Not are questions on who makes a good motherboard,
or bugs in commercial software.

I don't usually say anything unless the posting is seriously off
topic, because it's only a problem when no thought is given to the
group. Oh yes, FOR SALE is *always* wrong in every group except
misc.forsale.
