[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] PC-Based Usenet News Reader

snms4@vaxb.acs.unt.edu (09/14/90)

I'm searching for a PC-Based Usenet news reader.

Would anyone please send me any information they have on
such an animal? If any of you are using such a thing
already, I'd be very interested in your impressions, likes &
         dislikes.

Please send mail directly to me at either SNMS4@UNTVAX on
BITNET or SNMS4@VAXA.ACS.UNT.EDU on the Internet, so I won't
miss your replies. I'll summarize to the Net.

         Thanks,

         -Kevin Mullet

The problem with pcnews is that it is PC-NFS based. You have to be able to
mount a the /usr/spool/news of a unix machine onto a DOS machine. What I
would like to see is a version that works with a local NNTP server, and has
ethernet support using the FTP packet driver spec. That way anyone with a
ethernet card, a packet driver and a NNTP server availible can read, and
probably post news. Hope someone comes up with something.

Yeah, Bill! Let's hear it for a posted Waffle! (Extra syrup on mine,
please!) Seriously, I would appreciate a posted Waffle, since we don't
have ftp capability, and my home modem is shot. Thanks...

This would be the MS-DOS version. *nix'rs still must contact the author
for a copy.

In the meantime, I'll email segments.
