When I was quite young, we had a record by Lorne Greene (sp?),
which contained, among other songs, the Bonanza theme. It's
been a long time, and I'm trying to reconstruct the words... If
I succeed, I'll post them...
By the way, I seem to recall having LIKED the song. It was
especially interesting, since it told the story of the Cartwright
family, how they came to the Ponderosa, etc.
Now, a bit of Bonanza trivia (this is an easy one, folks!):
'Hoss' was really a nickname. What was the true name of the
character played by the late Dan Blocker?

Hoss was not a nickname. Ben had promised his second wife (Hoss' mom) that he would name a boy after her father. Ben's father-in-law had some perfectly reasonable name, which I don't recall. Immediately after Hoss was born, she told Ben that no, that was a nickname, her father's REAL name was Hoss, and so that's what the kid was called. If I remember right, she died as a result of the birth and was gasping out her last as she told Ben all this. -Joe P.
