I've been fooling with the LARN posted to c.b.i.p, and finding it refreshingly simple compared to nethack 3.0.9, but I can't seem to figure out what the heck to do with/at/to/around/near mirrors and statues... could somebody explain, please? Thanks! -- Mark Bradford (bradfrd2@ncar.ucar.edu) <> To err is human, to moo bovine.

Mirrors reflect spells at you. Statues (when destroyed) contain books.

I haven't tried the mirrors, but I guess if you cast a spell or a scroll in the direction of a mirror, you will be struck yourself. (Try to cast a polymorf into a mirror). Thanks! One of my friends says that larn is his favorite game because 1) you can win it on a regular basis, and 2) it doesn't take weeks to do it. I'm glad to see someone using it - I hoped my efforts hadn't gone to waste! Requests/bugs/etc welcome! To answer the other questions (mega, mega spoilers!): Mirrors will bounce spells back at you. If you stand at a 45 degree angle to the mirror, the spell may bounce off in a different direction instead of directly back at you (new with V12.2). Also, as one of the cookie fortunes says: "Are vampires afraid of something?" Statues are just decorative if you are playing a level 3 difficulty game or higher. Below level 3 difficulty, they produce spell books when destroyed. They can be destroyed with the VPR spell or the scroll of pulverization.
