[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Micro Generation Computers

pritchet@susie.cs.scarolina.edu (Ronald W. Pritchett) (10/04/90)

I have experienced first-hand how bad a mail-order company can be. Below
is my tale of woe. I'd STRONGLY advise you not to order or even consider
ordering from Micro Generation Computers in NJ. I have faith that their other
2 offices are just as bad. I hope this will save you some time, money &
severe headaches.

Mon 08/13/90 - System ordered; Made arrangements to have computer
shipped Friday 08/31/90. (Normal turn-around time:
2 weeks, delay was for my purposes ($$$) ).

Thu 09/05/90 - System ships nearly a week late. After asking to have
it shipped UPS overnight, salesman "pleades case to
               credit department."

Fri 09/07/90 - System arrives DOA. Case VERY thin, flimsy metal. Pressing
reset button causes it to fly back into case.

Mon 09/10/90 - RMA number established; system sent back to New Jersey.
Customer Service Rep. claims a one week refund peroid.

Wed 09/12/90 - Computer received in New Jersey.

Wed 09/12/90
 (through)
Wed 09/19/90 - Call made approximately every other day. In total: 2 Customer
Service Reps & 1 technician claim 1 week refund period and 1
Customer Service Rep claims 2 week refund period.

Mon 09/24/90 - System there nearly 2 weeks & accounting department can't find
paperwork. In a heated "conversation" with an Accounting Rep,
I explain that unless my refund is recieved by Fri 09/28/90,

Calls to AT&T, NJ District Attorney, Consumer Affairs, &
Computer Shopper will be made. I also threaten to post a
message about my experience with their company to FidoNet, &
               UseNet.

Thu 09/27/90 - Customer Service claims refund sent on Tue 09/25/90.

Fri 09/28/90 - Accounting finally sends refund check.

Wed 10/03/90 - Check received. Check, NOT cashier's check; 5 days to clear
               at the bank.

Thu 10/11/90 - Check clears bank.

My losses:

              $30 Shipping to me
$35 Shipping DOA computer to them
$30 Technician's fee for evaluation of system
$xx Long distance phone calls to Customer Service
              ---------
         1) $95+ Total

         2) 5 weeks without a computer

If you were thinking about buying from them, I'd like your Name, City, State
and how much you were going to spend. I'm going to compile a list of how much
business I've cost them and sent it to them. I'll only list your First Name,
Last Initial, City, State and Amount. Please spread this around so ohters can
be aware of this fraudulant, IMHO, company.

Thanks for your time. Please Respond to:

I am very sorry to hear of your troubles, and symphatize, but
comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d is a wrong newsgroup for this kind of a
posting. Please try to be more judicious in your selections.
