[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Communications programs, summary of responses

browns@iccgcc.decnet.ab.com (Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems) (10/08/90)

A week or so ago I posted a query about communications programs for my
PC. I received three responses, containing two recommendations of
Procomm, and one each of Kermit and Telix. I have purchased Procomm and
am initially pretty pleased. It lets you attach a command file to each
dial-up number, to handle different protocols on the other end.

Thanks for responses from:

WLV.IMSD.CONTEL.COM!mcc (Merton Campbell Crockett) who recommended
Kermit (available from watsun.cc.columbia.edu in source form; also from
simtel20.wsmr.army.mil in an executable form packed im an archive)

Bill Fischer <chinet.chi.il.us!wmf> who recommended "PROCOMM, excellent
vt100 emulation and I've run it on a variety of platforms with no
problem. Very nice, intuitive command structure too"

Kees van der Wal <CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU!JC_vdWal%pttrnl.nl> who recommended
Procomm plus (testdrive of demo version) and Telix. "They're similar in
the user interface but Telix has Zmodem built in (while with PC+ you
need DSZ as an external protocol). Both have a large number of
up/download protocols (including Kermit)."
