[net.games.trivia] Johnny Quest, "Space Ghost"

markp@tekmdp.UUCP (Mark Paulin) (08/16/83)

Anybody remember Johnny Quest? I seem to recall a kid with a turban and a rich
scientist dad and an Indian friend...

Or how about "Space Ghost", where our universal hero beats up on the baddies
out in the trackless void of space...?

Saturday mornings were great in those days...

Sure, I remember Johnny Quest. Talk about great kiddie cartoon shows
(I mean, who could tell that all of the plots were the same? All they ever
did was just change the order of words and add a few new ones...)

      BUT......for the $64,000 question:

Who did the voice for Johnny Quest???? (HINT: he was in a VERY popular
comedy film about 4 years ago.)

eric@aplvax.UUCP (08/18/83)

First "Space Ghost": I haven't checked recently, but within
the last year, some of the old "Space Ghost" shows were on network
Saturday morning programming as part of a some kind of space adevnture
hour. Some were new episodes, others were the original.

On to "Johnny Quest". Yes, I certainly remember the show.
It consisted of the exploits of Johnny, his Indian friend Hajii(sp?),
Johnny's father, and a muscle man type. Johnny also had a dog called
Bandit, that seemed to always be getting into trouble (what else do
dogs do). I think that it also is still shown in syndication, normally
on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, right after the network programming.

All of this video nostalgia is really starting to sink in. How
many of the readers of these articles have no idea what we are talking
about, and don't remember Fireball XL-5, Thunderbirds, Astroboy, the
above two shows, Mr. Terrific and Captain Nice, and all the rest? (God,
I'm starting to feel old)

Yea, good ol' Johnny Quest with his friends Hadji and Rex and the dog Bandit.
They don't make them like that anymore. All you get to see knowadays is
Pacman and the Smurfs. They are even coming out with a cartoon based on those
spider-like things that you throw on the wall and watch slowly crawl down.
GIVE ME A BREAK!!

I remember Jonny Quest. It was one of my absolute favorites. He had an
Indian friend with a turban and a little dog. Also Space Ghost was fun.
He had some teenage twins (the names Jan and John come to mind) who
helped him out.

When "Space Ghost" started, I stopped watching saturday morning TV.

Now for another trivia question:
What are fond rememberances about tv shows
	doing in this group?

answer next week.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, so forgive me if I'm being
redundant. Anyway, Mel Blanc spoke at B.U. several years ago.
(Best damn lecture I've ever been to. His first words were "Eeeeh
What's up Doc!" The audience roared.)
When someone mentioned the deteriorating quality of todays cartoons,
Mel stated that the cartoonists have a strong union. Hence, it's
far too expensive to make a cartoon today with the same quality as before.
I believe Warner Brothers don't make cartoons any more. Such a shame.

I believe , I say, I believe I mangled the Queens English. Such a shame

The official word from himself of ancient and (mathematically) perfect age:

Jonny Quest (no 'h'), with Hadji, Dr. Benton Quest, "Race" Bannon
(quotes are from the show itself) and Bandit.
Trivia Time (why else in net.games.trivia?):
	The Quest File Number
Bannon's real first name, and those of his parents
	Bannon's super-hot and -rich lady-love
	Quest's arch-enemy
How the Quest group FIRST met Hadji
Hadji's favorite phrase, and what it did
[Hey, this is the mandatory stuff - all easy]
From SG:
	Name Jan's twin brother.
	The chimp's name.
	Two mandatory pieces of equipment.
	Name of their Home base
	Name of SG's wrist gizmos

Aside from Keith Fung, I didn't get any replies to the JQ/SG quiz,
so here they are anyway:

The Quest File Number
	039
Bannon's real first name, and those of his parents
Roger, son of John and Sarah
Bannon's super-hot and -rich lady-love
	Jade
Quest's arch-enemy
	Dr. Zin
How the Quest group FIRST met Hadji
The Quest party was visiting India, where an assassin tried to kill
Dr. Quest by throwing a knife at him. Hadji was sitting nearby,
charming a snake. He saw the knife coming and stopped it with the
lid of the snake basket. Jonny thought Hadji was trying to kill his
father and tackled him. But we know how the story turned out..
Hadji's favorite phrase, and what it did
"Sim, Sim Salabim" - primarily for levitation

Name Jan's twin brother.
	Jason (aka "Jase")
The chimp's name.
	Blip
Two mandatory pieces of equipment.
	Jet Pack and Inviso-Belt
Name of their Home base
	Ghost Planet
Name of SG's wrist gizmos & Number of visible switches on same
Power bands, with three visible switches on each
Location of interpersonal communication device.
	On the chest
