Does anyone know why Cape Kennedy is back to being referred to as Cape Canaveral? Did Kennedy fall from grace?

The natives wanted the old name back for the land; hence the peninsula is called Cape Canaveral. The Space Center, however, is still the Kennedy Space Center.

The residents of the area still had an attachment to the name Canaveral, so (I think by their action) the name was changed back. The launch facility is still known as Kennedy Space Center. "Was there for STS-5 liftoff" Larry Bickford, ihnp4!decwrl!qubix!lab
