The most northern state is (of course) Alaska.
The most southern state is Hawaii.
The most western state is Alaska.
And the most eastern state is also Alaska (because the Little Diomede
Island is sitting on the International Date Line).
That is also the nearest the United States gets to a foreign country
without actually touching. The Little Diomede Island (US) is only
2 miles from the Big Diomede Island (USSR).
