Could anyone out there on the vast reaches of the net give me any information pertaining to the words to the "Speed Racer" theme? I know the first few lines but can't remember the rest..... Here he comes, Here comes Speed Racer. He's a demon on wheels. But that's all I know. Also, does anyone know what the functions of all the buttons on the steering wheel of the Mach Five were?? The one in the very middle (G) was "automatic jacks", those things that made the car jump... but I think the others always changed around because different animators were used. But anyway if you have any info regarding this, I'd appreciate it being posted to the net, or you can mail to: uofm-cv!jody. Thanks... Jody Fairchild, Univ of Mich (Ann Arbor)

Ah yes, Speed Racer. One of the all-time worst shows ever to be foisted on the American public by the Japanese. I used to love it. Here are the lyrics to the opening title song, as best I recall them... Here he comes Here comes Speed Racer He's a demon on wheels. He's a demon and he's gotta be chasing after someone. He's almost flying as he guns the car around the track. He's jamming down the channel like he's never coming back. Adventure's waiting just ahead! Go, Speed Racer! Go, Speed Racer! Go, Speed Racer, Go! The functions of the buttons: A: Release remote-control bird B?: Seal canopy for underwater operation C?: Extend winglets for long-distance jumps (?) D?: Raise TV periscope E?: Oxygen supply F?: Extra-traction thingies on tires G: Extend jacks (also caused a freeze-frame) All these functions were explained in one episode, but I've tried here to reconstruct them from memory. Button names like B?: mean I recall the function but not which button invoked it. Button names like A: mean I'm pretty sure that button did that. Part of the confusion about the buttons is caused by the fact that occasionally special functions were installed for a specific race (e.g. I recall that once the Mark V was rebuilt into a speedboat, with corresponding all-new functions for the buttons). -- David D.
