[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Looking for Archive tape drive software

@crdgw1.crd.ge.com:jcb%frisbee@sun.com (exos:) (10/20/90)

I'm trying to use the FASTAPE V4.00 software supplied by Archive for
their 60M tape system/controller (don't have the numbers handy - it's
the DC600A size 1/4" tapes).

This software is mighty old, from around 1986/1987, and doesn't
function well under MS-DOS V4.01. It seems to have problems with the
newer releases of DOS in terms of the FAT tables and such. Is there
newer software that works better?

Does anyone out there have or know of other software that will work
with this puppy? I'd like to write tar format tapes, but just being
able to write in a format where I can get the data back off would be
nice!

Does anyone have the phone number of Archive tech support?

Any information or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Look into PCTOOLS V6.x ... the PCBACKUP utility supports many of the popular
tape drives on the market.. probably yours too.

The one I have is called a FASTAPE FT-60.

The FasTape Version 4.xx Software User Manual says it works only for
DOS 2.x and 3.x.

This same tape works with the built-in factory tape drivers on SCO XENIX,
but I dont think this is the solution you are asking for. It also works
with CTAR, under XENIX.

Yes, they merged with Maynard Electronics. Try calling them at 407-263-3500.
Their tech support person was very helpful when I called. I believe there
is some charge for the backup software, but it also sounds like you have
a fairly recent version.
