gateways are actually BBSs running mailer software compatible with both
networks as front ends. If you have a fidonet compatible mailer, you can
try to FREQ (file request) via fidonet. Or if you have the site's phone
number, you can call the BBS and attempt to login as a user.
In my case, if I have a file that someone wants, send me a message and as
soon as I can I will uu/xxencode it and send it to you. If I missed the
gist of your question, let me know and I will try better <grin>
