The word is >"brouhaha" and at least one is always going...on....and on...and on. One of the purposes of net.misc is discussion of short-lived topics (such as the new Coke controversy, which resulted in the temporary group net.coke [I always thought that group was intended for discussing urine tasting :-] ). However, "current events", taken as a whole, is not a short-lived topic. Particular current events, such as the recent attack on Libya, the Chernobyl accident, and the like, may well be short-lived, but the need for talking, exchanging facts, opinions, rants, raves, and otherwise trying to get answers to questions about current events is an ongoing one. I suggest that neither net.misc nor net.followup (and certainly not net.general) are appropriate for these ongoing discussions, however fleeting particular topics may be; nor is net.politics appropriate. I also suggest that a new newsgroup be created for this purpose. A good name might well be net.brouhaha (net.current.events is a bit long). Something to think about: net.brouhaha will get to/from Europe, other choices might not. Please feel free to send mail to me, I will summarize to the net. I have directed followups to net.news.group, but if your news software does not pay attention to that, please do so yourself; mail is preferable to subjecting the net to a flood of "another vote for/against" nonsense. Please MAIL responses to me indicating support or opposition, WITH REASONS, and possible alternative names for the group. I'll let y'all know what I hear.
