I case across the following package in a BBS. It declares to be PC-Vault version 4.2, formerly PC-Lock. I found no shareware notice. Does anyone have definite information as to the status of this program (commercial, shareware)? I won't put it up for download for now, since I suspect that this might be commercial. pclock42.zip Length Method Size Ratio Date Time CRC-32 Name ------ ------ ---- ----- ---- ---- ------ ---- 3663 Implode 1843 50% 10-12-89 15:00 5cd2945b read-me.1st 106928 Implode 29385 73% 10-12-89 15:00 fa763b57 admin.doc 35841 Implode 10208 72% 10-12-89 15:00 46a2734d user.doc 89282 Implode 83587 6% 10-12-89 15:00 4091694f pc-vault.exe 13456 Implode 4504 67% 10-12-89 15:00 024813f4 brk-cntl.com 12816 Implode 3658 71% 10-12-89 15:00 5f0a6192 exec.com 13168 Implode 4206 68% 10-12-89 15:00 d54a585a set-time.com 18320 Implode 9100 50% 10-12-89 15:00 08ce3be8 viols.com 12640 Implode 3605 71% 10-12-89 15:00 493a0d4a who.com ------ ------ --- ------- 306114 150096 51% 9 ................................................................... The PC-Vault version that I have played with is a crippleware, basically demo version. It only allows you to use passwords such as "a", "b", etc. It also does not have subdirectory protection/permission, which one version of the full version has available. I don't know if the PCLock version is useable as such beyond being a demo. I would say that the PC-Vault version is not practically useful except as a preview. You would have to check with the company to see if pre-commercial versions are still permitted to be posted. -- Michael Volow, Psychiatry, Durham VA Med Center, Durham NC 27712 919 286 0411 Ext 6933 mvolo@ecsvax.edu

What I have seems indeed to be the crippleware demo version of a commercial program. This being the case I think it is perhaps not worth the while putting it up for general download. ...................................................................
