[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Do you have information on PCLOCK42.ZIP status?

ts@uwasa.fi (Timo Salmi) (01/30/91)

I case across the following package in a BBS. It declares to be
PC-Vault version 4.2, formerly PC-Lock. I found no shareware
notice. Does anyone have definite information as to the status of
this program (commercial, shareware)? I won't put it up for download
for now, since I suspect that this might be commercial.

The PC-Vault version that I have played with is a crippleware, basically
demo version. It only allows you to use passwords such as "a", "b",
etc. It also does not have subdirectory protection/permission, which
one version of the full version has available. I don't know if the
PCLock version is useable as such beyond being a demo. I would say
that the PC-Vault version is not practically useful except as a preview.
You would have to check with the company to see if pre-commercial
versions are still permitted to be posted.

Thanks for the information. You are right. What I have seems
indeed to be the crippleware demo version of a commercial program.
This being the case I think it is perhaps not worth the while
putting it up for general download.
