Five'll getcha ten that you've recently upgraded to DOS 4.x.  In previous
versions the volume label was kept in the root directory of the volume in
a file (actually, as a filename with no data attached to it) with a bit
set in its attributes indicating that it was the label.  But no longer!
In version 4.x the label is stored in the boot sector, which has been
extended to contain additional information (the label and a serial number,
among other things).  Since QDR.COM was apparently written before, and so
without knowledge of, 4.x, it can't set the label on a disk.
   Followups should be redirected somewhere else, but I don't know where.
