[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] RAMdisk to Survive Warm Boot?

dubner@hpspkla.spk.hp.com (Joe Dubner) (01/29/91)

Can anyone recommend a RAMdisk program that uses extended RAM and
does not lose its contents with a warm boot? The one I'm using does
not use the newer extended RAM allocation schemes and therefore
doesn't coexist with certain of the newer programs. (My RAMdisk is
at least 5 years old and came with an old Orchid "turbo" card).

Except for its problems with coexistence, I love it and wish I could
find a more modern version whose contents could survive a warm boot.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

Take a look at /pc/pd2/ram.zip. I'm not sure, but it just might be
solve your problem. As far as I remember, you can use it to save
the image of your ramdisk on the harddisk, and restore it from there
at the reboot.

I use RAMDISK.SYS as supplied with MS-DOS 3.2 with extended memory. It holds
up just fine through a warm boot.

Thanks for the suggestion. But my DOS (MS-DOS 3.3 OEM'd to
Hewlett-Packard) must not be the same. I tried VDISK with the /E
parameter and the resultant RAMdisk lost all its contents after a
Cntl-Alt-Del.

Must work differently in different versions.
