I know that remac files were discussed at length earlier, but I really did not pay much attention to them at the time. Anyway, I am now looking for sources of Mac .snd files. I have found a few sources here in the States, but they are all .hqx files which I have not found a way to use. I do have an unsit program that will unstuff Stuffit (.sit) files. If you know of any programs that can be used on a PC to unarc .hqx files or you know of a source in the States that has .snd files (either not compressed or in Stuffit format), please let me know. I do have FTP access. Thanks for your time! -Bill ____ | \ | | Bill Henry - wdh1@ra.msstate.edu | / . | | Mississippi State University |----\ | | | ) | | | "Please, Captain. Can you post some sites for these sound files? Or at least mail me? It contains in shar format (I think) sources for programs that can/will un BinHex files. The files should be in the /info-mac/unix directory but I could be off. Ive used these files to get .hqx files to my 88K so I know they work. Bruce (bkahn@archive.rtp.dg.com)

I recently downloaded Remac from wustl.wuarchive.edu, a program which reads Macintosh sound files. It has four different speeds, each of which is necessary for some sound files. I find it works fine, except that if I use the fastest speed (22 kHz), the computer crashes, Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work, and I have to turn the computer off. I have a Zenith ZF-158 8Mhz XT compatible, and memory resident programs normally running include a mouse driver, explosiv (a screen saver), f-prot (virus protection), and TopDos. Does anyone have any idea why the program only crashes at 22 Mhz, or better yet, a solution? Mike -- Michael S. I don't mean to be picky or anything, but in the version of remac I posess, the documentation clearly indicates that the fastest speed will not run on XT class computers, as this is pushing the system clock way to fast. In my case, remac fails badly if QEMM is running. Little time seems to be granted to REMAC, it slows/speeds up and continuously loops until I turn off the computer (Keyboard INTs shutdown). If the virus thing is background and chugs constantly looking for trouble - I'll pick this. REMAC or REMAC2 to be exact (no hiss on my SX) is dead good - and now I have a suite of MAC utils I constantly raid the MAC servers, however I have a problem. Some of the MAC stuff is a number of samples made into one, 'beeps' highlight's this best - is there either a sample editor for the PC or better still, a set of REMAC object file calls that will allow a users program to send a data ptr+long int size to the play routines. If there isn't REMACs author should release some - otherwise I'll have to put my sticky hands into the pie. JR
