[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Problem with uncompress/tar

jxp@ccadfa.adfa.oz.au (Joe Petrolito) (02/19/91)

Maybe it's just me, but I can't get a Unix file which has been tared
and compressed to be expanded on the PC.
After transferring down to the PC (using binary mode in Kermit), the
compressed file will uncompress (usually!). However, tar starts complaining
about the resulting file not looking like a tar archive and hangs the PC.
What am I doing wrong?
I'm using the tar program written by Mark Colburn (circa Feb 1990)
and compress is of similar vintage (can't remember exact source, but
I got it from Simtel).
Any help would be appreciated.
Joe.

I will stop posting those files immediately.
