[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] New versions of conquest & pokersq at garbo.uwasa.fi

steve@cad0.arch.unsw.oz.au (Stephen Peter) (03/02/91)

G'Day all,

As the subject says, I have uploaded new versions of the following games:

    conquest v2.3 and
    pokersq v1.5

to garbo.uwasa.fi they are in the games directory.

Conquest is a strategy war-game, played on a "map" (a new map is created
each time the game is run). The computer's move code has been rewritten
(land-based strategy is much better, sea-based strategy is improved). The
games initialisation (text) file has a number of new fields, including one
to set the number of cities at the start - if you find the game too easy
then simply give the computer players more cities & armies at the start....

Included with conquest is a program called "fixsave" which corrects faulty
saved-games. Earlier versions had difficulty saving games where the map
size was 14 (vertically). Fixsave, fixes those files (so they can be used
with version 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3.

Poker-square is a two-person game. Each player receives (the same) 25 cards
to place on their 5 x 5 board, creating 10 (5H & 5V) poker hands, each hand
gets a score and the winner is the player with the highest total score.
The main new feature in this version is a "session top-10": after playing
the game for a while, it becomes difficult to get onto the top-10 list, the
"session top-10" displays a separate list for the current game session.

enjoy!

Stephen.

PS people "down under" should note that the files are also available from
sol.deakin.oz.au (and possibly keystone.arch.unsw.oz.au next week).
