Has anyone ever heard of this beast, know if it can still be obtained, and also possibly if there is a way to get a book on it? I unfortunately have to get something running under Turbo C that uses many _function() type calls that are dependent on the DeSmet compiler (which I have never heard of) This is for a prototype, so I would rather just modify the code than start over. Please respond via email. Thank you Mike

DeSmet used to be a commercial product but one which has recently gone the shareware approach. You can obtain the package from, among other places, SIMTEL20 as: Directory PD1:<MSDOS.C> PCC12C.ARC B 241867 900102 Personal C compiler. Fully functional, C WARE Don't let the name fool you -- this is from DeSmet. I bought DeSmet C and a couple of upgrade revs back when it was commercialware (early to mid-80s). After a couple of upgrade revs, DeSmet seemed to have disappeared. A while later I heard it was now shareware. By that time I had moved on to Microsoft C and Turbo C. But every now and then, I kinda miss DeSmet C. I think it would fit on a 768K HardRAM disk on my Toshiba T1000 (try that with Microsoft C 6.0 or Turbo C++ :-). This brings up an interesting situation though. Since I bought DeSmet C and a couple of revs, am I obligated to pay the shareware cost if I like whatever it is I pick up from Simtel? -- Todd Ogasawara ::: Hawaii Medical Service Association Internet ::: todd@pinhead.pegasus.com Telephone ::: (808) 536-9162 ext. 7
