I've got the QRT quick-raytracer about half a year ago, but it has some nasty bugs and now I'm looking for other ray tracers for PC's. They should support at least SuperVGA-level graphics and have possibility to program picture viewer (picture data's format included, or a sample viewer's sources). Support for math co-processor would be nice too (I don't want to wait years ;-). If you know any good raytracers other than QRT, please mail information to me. Especially I'm looking for one with a interactive data/picture editor. I've seen one on a computer fair few years ago, but after that I haven't heard anything about such programs. ptuomola@clinet.fi -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Petri Tuomola OH2LJY | InterNet: ptuomola@clinet.fi or ptuomola@unidex.pp.fi Ylipalontie 10AC | FidoNet : Petri Tuomola@2:220/63 00670 Helsinki | UUCP : ...!mcsun!fuug!clinet!ptuomola

There's quite a bit of stuff available actually... The only one I've seen that is FTPable is DBWRENDR, which can be found on SIMTEL20 in pd1:<msdos.graphics>. The other ones I have are Vivid and DKB. Vivid is "beggarware" ;-) and DKB is PD. DBW is the slowest of the bunch, I believe, but has some neat features that the others don't have (one being "snow" texture). DKB seems to be the best all-round package. Vivid is the newest of the bunch but doesn't quite stand up to DKB. None of the programs have an interactive data/picture editor... all of 'em require programming in their own languages. DKB and I think DBW both output to Targa (in any size you specify), and Vivid outputs to its own 24bit format. I have a whole slew of utilities for converting these images between various formats and converting them to 256 colour GIFs (Vivid comes with one of them). I've got about 2 megabytes of these programs and about another 1.5 megabytes of some good demo GIFs that I've been meaning to get to an FTP site for a while, but just haven't had the time with my 2400 modem... (sigh...). But I will try to get the stuff up to SIMTEL20 soon. Or, if you can stand the long distance, you can reach my BBS at +1-604-983-3546 2400bps V.42. Mail me and I can set up an account for you. Or, hopefully look for these files on SIMTEL20 in a couple of weeks. -- +------------------------------------------------+-------------------------+ | cthulhu@{arkham.UUCP|arkham.wimsey.bc.ca} | He who has had has been | | ...!van-bc!cynic!arkham!cthulhu | but he who has not been | | jono_moore@{mindlink.UUCP|cc.sfu.ca|sfu.bitnet}| has been had. | +------------------------------------------------+-------------------------+
