I am reminded of a conversation Wittgenstein is said to have had with a colleague in the corridor: W: Why do we assume that it's natural for people to believe that the sun goes round the Earth ? C: Well.... because it looks as though the sun goes round the Earth. W: But, what would it look like if it looked as though the Earth goes round the sun ? [Of course, you have to remember that a typical Wittgenstein question is `Is the rhinoceros that's not in your corner the same as the rhinoceros that's not in my corner ?] -- Nigel Sharp National Optical Astronomy Observatories Tucson, Arizona (602) 325-9273 UUCP: {akgua,allegra,arizona,decvax,hao,ihnp4,lbl-csam,seismo}!noao!sharp ARPA: noao!sharp@lbl-csam.arpa
