[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] GNU C and/or C++ compiler for a 286 : where can I get it

rcotl@minyos.xx.rmit.oz.au (Tim Liddelow [The Mad Monk]) (03/27/91)

I am looking for the GNU C or C++ compiler for an AT. Can someone
tell me what the latest version is and where I can get it ?

Thanks.

in GNU C's documentation is said

: GNU CC and Portability
: **********************
:
: The main goal of GNU CC was to make a good, fast compiler for
: machines in the class that the GNU system aims to run on: 32-bit
:                                                           ^^^^^^
: machines that address 8-bit bytes and have several general registers.
: Elegance, theoretical power and simplicity are only secondary.

Since 80286 is 16-bit processor AT is 16-bit machine, it seems that there is
no GNU C for ATs. (There are two for 386 PCs, but that's different).
