[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] UUencode, decode specifications...

IO92203@MAINE.BITNET (Scott Maxell) (04/08/91)

I wish to write a better looking UUencode/decode program and need
some information on what the specifications of this format is. What
translation takes place? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Once it is completed, I will post so that anyone who wants the new
en/decoder can have it. Thanks in advance...

uuencode is a six bit to eight bit table lookup. There is also
xxencode (same thing but other characters for mapping), btoa (smaller
output files), and abe (similar size, many bells and whistles).

The code for uuencode is in a lot of places, post another note if you
don't get burried in offers.
