[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Questions on GRASPALL and gl-open, gl-make.

mwm@raybed2.msd.ray.com (mwm) (04/11/91)

I have some questions regarding the recently posted programs gl-open,
gl-make and also the GRASPALL package that was posted to c.b.i.p a while ago.

First, a question about the GRASPALL package. This was a shareware GL
composing program from Microtex Industries, copyrighted in 1986. I know that
Paul Mace sells the new commercial version of this, but my question is this;
were there ever any later releases of this program that would handle VGA images
such as the majority of GL's floating around these days?
This package looked great from playing around with it, but you can't do too
much with EGA.

Are there any other shareware/PD programs that will allow you to
manipulate Grasp files. (Mainly, playing around with the TXT file.) I'm
getting tired of using my hex editor to play with GLs ;^)

The programs gl-open and gl-make posted recently looked promising, but
there appear to be a few problems, if anyone can answer them, go for it!
These programs are supposed to allow you to take apart and put together GL
files into thier component files. The first problem is that when taking
apart GLs, gl-open appears to choke on big gl files. Looking at the source
leads me to believe that it could be a simple bug, but I don't have a C
compiler loaded on my machine to do any debugging.
The second problem is that the PIC files that get extracted from the GL file
don't appear to be PCPntbrsh format, which I think is the format that
they're supposed to be. Several graphics packages I have did not recognize
the format of these PIC files.
Lastly, how does one get the gl-make program to work, I only know the real
basics about Grasp files, and I can't figure out why this program won't work.
I can get it to create a GL file for me, but my Grasp viewers don't recognize
the GL file. (This was done on a GL file that I had used gl-open on, not my
own creation). Has anyone gotten it to work?

thanks for any help,
Mark
